Future Ready - Levelling up with my Hospitality Apprenticeship
2025 has been a moment!
When I first stepped into the world of hospitality at The Alfriston, earlier this year, as a newly opened hotel in East Sussex I had no clue of what to expect, or the skills I’d develop along the way. What I did know, was that I was very ambitious, determined, and got a lot of my energy from other people, having spent a couple of years in retail.

What’s the most valuable skill you’ve learned so far on your apprenticeship?
It would have to be around values, and understanding more about how workplace culture and your working environment contributes to team dynamics and development.
-
What inspired you to choose hospitality over retail?
I would say what inspired me to choose hospitality over retail was delivering a warmer interaction on the day to day with guests, and just being able to make someone’s day or weekend as special as possible.
-
What does a day in the life look for you as a receptionist?
Every day brings something new, it’s hospitality after all! Whether it’s handling guest reservations, creating that perfect welcome experience for all that come through our doors, to taking care of room billing, and supporting sister teams. It’s all in a day’s work.
-
How has your apprenticeship shaped your future goals?
So far, I would say my apprenticeship journey has given me more exposure to skills development and understanding how these apply to people in a supervisory or managerial role. I see my future within a people management capacity or leading a hospitality team.

Which 3 words would you use to describe your journey at Signet Collection to date?
I would say, inspiring, quirky and homely.
